There is a lunch I have been dreaming of making for you. It begins with my father. He was a man who loved the sea. Who loved the particular abundance of a Kerala coastal table — fish steamed in coconut and curry leaves, shrimp cooked down with pumpkin into something golden and sweet, mussels in a broth so alive with pepper and tamarind it made your eyes water in the best way. He loved pineapple pachadi and red rice and the kind of meal that asked nothing of you except that you sit down and stay a while. These were his favorite dishes. Every single one of them.
