The Sadya feast is a celebration of the harvest festival called Onam.
Sadya, a traditional Kerala meal prepared during the festival of Onam- vegetarian dishes served on a banana leaf, the food does not stop flowing. From okra, beets, green plantains, pumpkins, ivy gourd, cabbage, lentils, served with Kerala red rice and an addictive assortment of ginger/lime achars, Asha's home made ghee, crunchy pappadums, and so much more...this meal is a singular culinary experience like no other. Traditionally, the meal is eaten with the hands solidifying each diner's connection with the food and the experience of dining as a community endeavor. I served this feast for as small as 12 guests to over 200, and each time it's been a way of fostering connections between the chef and the diner. I've added my interpretation and innovations to the traditional techniques to make the cuisine more approachable and yet preserving the integrity of the ancient tradition.
